Business Environment

Mount Forest, located in the Township of Wellington North, is situated 45 minutes from Guelph, Cambridge and Kitchener/Waterloo. Wellington North takes in both rural and urban settings and located at the intersections of Highways 6 & 89, just across the Saugeen River, Mount Forest with an altitude of over 1,400 ft is a great place to live, shop and play.

Nestled in a picturesque agricultural setting Wellington North has a vigorous agricultural sector, a substantial industrial base and a wealth of Conservation lands. Established businesses are expanding and new ones are coming into Mount Forest due to the excellent infrastructure and a vibrant dedicated workforce. Old established neighborhoods are complimented by new residential development and small urban centres by rural countryside providing a variety of lifestyle choices for our workforce, residents and their guests. The quality of life available is second to none with clean air and clean water, quiet tree lined streets, abundant recreational activities, excellent shopping opportunities and exceptional health care and educational facilities.

Mount Forest is also home to a satellite detachment of the County of Wellington OPP and in January of this year the provincial government announced funding for a new state-of-the-art Forensic Identification Unit for construction in Mount Forest. This project is proceeding as part of the OPP modernization project which will involve construction of 16 new OPP facilities across the province.

Mount Forest has a number of large and small enterprises that have located here as land is relatively inexpensive compared to locations closer to the major urban areas and as the cost of living is less, labour is cheaper as well. Long Manufacturing-Dana Corp., Quality Engineered Homes, Waste Management of Canada, Viking Cives Limited are all located in the area with a workforce of over 100 employees. Many large retail locations such as Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, Rona, No Frills, Foodland etc., are also major employers located in Mount Forest. Similar to most of rural Ontario we also have a healthy construction industry with many workers in the various trades such as building contractors, carpenters, plumbers and other skilled workers.
